MISSION

The Lane College Cheerleading Program is dedicated to carrying on the traditions of Lane College by representing the college with pride.   We believe in embracing the present and setting new standards for the future. By maintaining positive attitudes, we vow to develop ourselves individually and collectively.  The Lane College Cheerleaders support as many athletic events as possible. An emphasis is placed on promoting a positive game-day atmosphere.

The Mission Statement of the Cheerleading Program is as follows:

It is our mission to uphold the pride and traditions of Lane College.  We strive to consistently work hard, practice and perform with heart, dedicate ourselves to this program, and above all have fun.   We recognize that this program is not built on one person, but as a squad as a whole.   Members will maintain a good sportsmanship while focusing on academic success, student development, leadership opportunities, student health and wellbeing while operating within safety regulations set forth by the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches & Administrators (AACCA).

STUDENT DEVELOPMENT COMMITMENT

The Lane College Cheerleading Program is committed to developing the “whole” student spiritually, academically, socially and athletically on and off the completion floor.  Equipping our cheerleaders with the skills necessary to meet challenges they may face, and preparing them for life after graduation.

OBJECTIVES

The Lane College Cheerleading program is a student activity.   As a student activity, its first and foremost responsibility to the student is to support and not to compromise the student’s academic career.  Secondly, the program should aid in developing the student participant into a responsible, mature, and independent adult. Specifically, the program strives to improve the student’s mental and physical well-being.  Student participants will be provided (1) leadership training; (2) opportunities for the development and enhancement of decision making skills; (3) enhance in conflict/frustration, objective decision making and sportsmanship; (4) enhancement other interpersonal relationships; such as self-awareness, self-control and self-confidence and (5) the opportunity for student growth, change and maturity.

The primary purpose of the program is to encourage team unity for the support of intercollegiate athletics and Lane College. The program’s support is directed into three major areas:

  1. To lead the cheers; to raise the level of fan support for intercollegiate athletics; to lead in positive vocal support for the team(s); to solicit from Dragon fans on behalf of the College and its teams;

  2. To maintain spectators’ attention and engagement with the intercollegiate athletics activities on the field and court; perform gymnastics, partner stunts, motions, pyramids, dance movements for entertainment and competitive purpose.

  3. To serve as public relations ambassadors of intercollegiate athletics and Lane College by appearing at College activities, functions and programs, and public cause (Not commercial/business purposes).
